The first school term of 2020 has come to an end and what a term it has been. Who could’ve guessed the way it ended, with us all going into some kind of quarantine and worrying about face masks, hand washing and toilet paper. Looking back over the term, there have a been a number of exciting events and achievements. It started off with the Getting to Know You Picnic, where staff, parents and children spent a late afternoon chatting and playing games, led by the ever jovial Wilfred Schrieff. Our annual inter-house Swimming Gala and Athletics Day, took place in February where our learners showed their talents in the pool and on the field, earning points for their houses. Liesbeek took a massive lead in the house points race for the term, when they won both sporting events. By the time the end of term came around, Coornhoop and Tafelberg had clawed their way back and all 3 houses were neck on neck. We are waiting with baited breath for the first assembly of the second term to find out which house has won. Still on the sporting front, we need to congratulate a few of our learners who did exceptionally well in their sporting codes. Matthew Ward in Gr 3 was selected for the NMA ISKA (National Martial Arts, International Sports Karate Association) South African squad to compete at the World Championships in Orlando Florida. Six of our Drummies received their South African Colours (SASCOC gives final approval of Protea Colours later in the year) recently. Well done to Mika Marais, Danique Africa, Tatum-Jade Rhode, Ashka King, Jabulile Sani and Shiloh Maree. We are extremely proud of our GSPS sportsmen and woman! Congratulations!! We’d like to wish everyone a safe and peaceful school holiday, especially during this uncertain time. Keep healthy and stay safe!
Well done to Eisteddfod Learners.

Mandela Day at GSPS

Happy 83rd birthday GSPS!

Groote Schuur Primary turned 83 on the 13th of July! We celebrated by having a Founders Day assembly on Friday. It was wonderful having Mr Anton Meyer spend some time with us. Happy birthday GSPS!

Library-It’s been almost 2 years since the makeover and the learners are loving it!

Grade 7 Tour 2018

At the beginning of October our 2018 Grade 7’s went on the annual tour to the Garden Route. It was an early start on Monday 8 October, as everyone had to be at school by 5am, so we could leave by 6am.
Our first adventure for the day was Sandboarding at Vleesbaai with Dragons Dune Sandboarding. The kids had a ball but complained profusely about having to climb back up the dunes…the reality of what goes down, must come up!

Day 2 took us over the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn for the day. We visited the Cango Wildlife Ranch, where we able to have an up-close look at lions, tigers, cheetahs and wonderful treat of seeing a leopard resting in a tree.

Next we explored the depths of the Cango Caves. Almost all our learners made it right to the end, conquering their fears of small spaces, by squeezing through The Chimney and The Letterbox.

It was boiling hot in Oudtshoorn, so much so that they had to postpone our ostrich feeding and riding at Highgate Ostrich Farm, to later in the afternoon. It turned out to be a welcome break, as we were able to lounge around on the grass under the trees for a few hours, chatting and relaxing.

Day 3 took us to the Wilderness for zip-lining and boat ride on the Knysna Lagoon.

Our final day was spent in the Plettenberg Bay area. We visited the Elephants at The Knysna Elephant Park, the snakes at Lawnwood Snake Park and finally an enormous amount of fun was had at Adventure Land waterpark.

Everyone had a fantastic time on tour, with many wonderful memories being made!
Top Achievements for our Drummies

A huge congratulations goes to 10 of our drummies who achieved Provincial and National Colours for Majorettes.
Jordan Arends, Hannah Rademeyer and Tayla Ward achieved their Protea Colours and represented South Africa in the recent World Championships held in Cape Town in September.

Danique Africa, Mika Marais, Tatum-Jade Rhode, Arielle Kamunga, Jabulile Sani, Mia Arendse and Ashka King achieved their Western Province colours.

Well done, we are very proud of you all!!
Wish Upon a Star

Groote Schuur Primary’s production of Wish Upon a Star took place from 25 to 27 September 2018 and what a huge success it was! A fourth show was put on to try and accommodate all the excited families that wanted to see their children performing. The learners rehearsed for many, many hours and the result was a standing ovation on all 3 nights! A huge congratulations to the team that worked behind the scenes and put the whole production together and a special shout out to all our wonderful actors, actresses and choir members! Fantastic Show![Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”10″ gal_title=”Wish Upon a Star”]
