Derby Day vs Kronendal

Our Netball, hockey and rugby teams played against Kronendal Primary from Hout Bay, on Saturday 4 August.  Despite the few drops of rain in the early morning, we had some good support from our parents and learners.  A huge thank you goes out to Kronendal’s staff, parents and learners for coming out and enjoying the morning with us.

Bingo 2018

For those that are new to our school, Bingo is our annual fundraiser for our Grade 7’s.  They go on a tour of the Garden Route every year and this is an important part of assisting the parent’s in covering the cost of the tour.  So after much gathering of prizes, planning and preparing, the evening of Bingo arrived.  There was great anticipation and excitement about the prizes that everyone wanted to win.

There were many shouts of Bingo during the evening, with smiles on the faces of the happy winners.  The tuckshop kept up with the demands of the hungry players and produced some delicious food.  A wonderful evening was had by all!

A huge thank you to all who contributed to making the evening a success and we hope to see you all again next year!!

From Gr R to Matric…

Our 2013 Gr 7 pupils are in Matric this year and a few of them attended the Wynberg Girls High Matric Dance recently.  We are so glad they decided to take a photo together, taking us down memory lane.  All grown up and ready to take on the world!

From left to right: Cameron Kelly, Jared Moses, Jason Brink, Caleigh Hanekom, Kayla Arendse, Lauren van Tonder, Demi Fester, Jaco Barnard and Nicholas Cable.

Family Camp Out

After much anticipation the evening of our Family Camp Out arrived, Friday 9 March presented us with perfect camp out weather!

Campers started arriving at 16:00 to set up their tents and get settled in for the evening.  It was wonderful to see children running around and playing out in the open.  There was a fantastic atmosphere all around the school.  The jumping castle and soccer shoot out were popular activities while the disco and movie were particular highlights.  A surprise visit from our Principal, Mr Nefdt, who has been on sick leave this term, got everyone very excited.  Good to see you looking so fit and healthy Mr Nefdt!!

A huge thank you needs to go out to the staff, PTA and a few parents who jumped in to help when it was needed.  Everyone worked extremely hard to make the evening a success.  The PTA unfortunately had to deal with a few electricity gremlins on the evening, which slowed the food orders down a bit but they bravely soldiered on and were able to fill everyone’s tummy’s in the end.  Thank you so much for your love and dedication to the school.  It would not be possible to put an event on like this, without your assistance.  It is genuinely appreciated!

Interhouse Athletics Day

As the sun rose on Saturday morning 3 February 2018, we knew it was going to be a stunning day for Athletics and it didn’t disappoint!  In full song and with huge excitement, Coornhoop, Liesbeek and Tafelberg paraded around the field…the day had begun.  With the smell of boerewors braaing in the air,  the first races got under way. It was wonderful to see the parents cheering their children on and many, many photo’s being taken.  A highlight was definitely seeing the Grade R’s running with bean bags on their heads and egg and spoon races.  The Grade 7’s hosted the tuckshop for the day, as a fundraiser towards their tour to the Garden Route later this year.  Thank you to everyone for supporting them.  The main event of the day was of course the Relay event.  The races were closely contested by the houses, with lots of encouragement shouted from the sidelines.  A huge congratulations to Tafelberg who were the winners on the day with 332 points, followed by Coornhoop 315 and Liesbeek with 302.  Thank you to everyone for all their support, I know the learners loved having their parents there!

Mr Bösenberg Retires

After 19…almost 20 years at GSPS, Mr Keith Bösenberg is retiring today.  Over the years, he taught us all, children and staff alike, many wonderful and insightful life lessons.  His knowledge and passion for nature and the universe is inspiring.  Whenever any of us pass Table Mountain, we all look up and wonder which difficult mountaineering route he’s tackling today.

Thank you Mr B for everything, we will miss you.

Your GSPS Family
