Grade 7 Tour 2018

At the beginning of October our 2018 Grade 7’s went on the annual tour to the Garden Route.  It was an early start on Monday 8 October, as everyone had to be at school by 5am, so we could leave by 6am.

Our first adventure for the day was Sandboarding at Vleesbaai with Dragons Dune Sandboarding.  The kids had a ball but complained profusely about having to climb back up the dunes…the reality of what goes down, must come up!

Day 2 took us over the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn for the day.  We visited the Cango Wildlife Ranch, where we able to have an up-close look at lions, tigers, cheetahs and wonderful treat of seeing a leopard resting in a tree.

Next we explored the depths of the Cango Caves.  Almost all our learners made it right to the end, conquering their fears of small spaces, by squeezing through The Chimney and The Letterbox.

It was boiling hot in Oudtshoorn, so much so that they had to postpone our ostrich feeding and riding at Highgate Ostrich Farm, to later in the afternoon.  It turned out to be a welcome break, as we were able to lounge around on the grass under the trees for a few hours, chatting and relaxing.

Day 3 took us to the Wilderness for zip-lining and boat ride on the Knysna Lagoon.

Our final day was spent in the Plettenberg Bay area.  We visited the Elephants at The Knysna Elephant Park, the snakes at Lawnwood Snake Park and finally an enormous amount of fun was had at Adventure Land waterpark.

Everyone had a fantastic time on tour, with many wonderful memories being made!

Wish Upon a Star

Groote Schuur Primary’s production of Wish Upon a Star took place from 25 to 27 September 2018 and what a huge success it was!  A fourth show was put on to try and accommodate all the excited families that wanted to see their children performing.  The learners rehearsed for many, many hours and the result was a standing ovation on all 3 nights! A huge congratulations to the team that worked behind the scenes and put the whole production together and a special shout out to all our wonderful actors, actresses and choir members!  Fantastic Show![Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”10″ gal_title=”Wish Upon a Star”]

Zwaanswyk Sports Day 2018

Groote Schuur Primary participated in a Sports Day at Zwaanswyk on Saturday 18 August.  We played against a number of schools where we had a few losses but also one or two good wins too.  There were about 2000 people on the day, which created a wonderful atmosphere which the players and supporters all thoroughly enjoyed.  Well done to all!

Derby Day vs Kronendal

Our Netball, hockey and rugby teams played against Kronendal Primary from Hout Bay, on Saturday 4 August.  Despite the few drops of rain in the early morning, we had some good support from our parents and learners.  A huge thank you goes out to Kronendal’s staff, parents and learners for coming out and enjoying the morning with us.
